Hurricanes in the Eastern Pacific?
Hurricanes develop very commonly in the Eastern Pacific, especially right off Baja California and Mexico. These areas have very warm waters during hurricane season, and as such, are a spawning ground for tropical disturbances. Fortunately, most of the hurricanes stay feed off the warm oceans and don't normally approach land in the Americas, but sometimes do. Rarely do hurricanes that wander northward hit California because of the cold ocean water that dramatically changes in temperature the higher up you go.
However, hurricanes in the Eastern Pacific sometimes stray across to the Central Pacific. They get very close to the Hawaiian islands, though seldom directly hit Hawaii with any fury. Normally by the time a hurricane from the Eastern Pacific arrives in Hawaii, it's down to a tropical disturbance (35mph winds max) or even less. This usually occurs during Aug - Oct.
