How to spot thunderstorms/hurricanes?
Hurricanes will have a spiral shaped look to it which appears to spin counterclockwise. Hurricanes in the Central Pacific area are not common and when they do occur, rarely hit Hawaii. Nonetheless, hurricanes in the Central Pacific can change the weather in Hawaii dramatically, usually by creating very humid conditions when a hurricane is in the immediate vicinity. Remnants of hurricanes (tropical depressions) often bring heavy showers.
Sometimes hurricanes from the Eastern Pacific (baja California) migrate over to the Central Pacific. However, when hurricanes develop solely in the Central Pacific area, they are given Hawaiian names. The last Central Pacific hurricane to hit Hawaii was Hurricane Iniki in 1992.
